'Voraussagen' (to predict) is a separable verb. The prefix 'voraus' comes at the end in a main clause. In subordinate clauses and in the infinitive, the verb stays together.

The expert predicts a positive development.
The verb consists of the prefix 'voraus-' (in advance, beforehand) and the verb 'sagen' (to say). So the literal meaning is 'to say something in advance.'

This verb is often combined with things that lie in the future. Typical accusative objects are 'die Zukunft' (the future), 'das Wetter' (the weather), 'eine Entwicklung' (a development), or 'ein Ergebnis' (a result).

'ankündigen' and 'voraussagen' both refer to something in the future. The difference is important: 'ankündigen' is used when someone makes something future known, especially publicly or officially. Often, this person or organization knows that it is supposed to happen. 'voraussagen', on the other hand, means to make a prediction. So you say what will probably happen, but you do not decide it yourself. Learners may confuse the words because both have to do with the future. A simple guideline is: appointments, plans, and events are 'angekündigt'; weather, developments, or results are 'vorausgesagt'.
