'Zutrauen' (to believe capable) is a separable verb. In a main clause, 'zu' comes at the end of the sentence; in a subordinate clause, the verb stays together; and in the infinitive with 'zu', 'zu' comes between the prefix and the stem.

With 'jemandem etwas zutrauen' (to believe someone capable of something), the person is in the dative and the ability or action is in the accusative. The action can also be expressed with a 'dass' (that) clause or a 'zu' infinitive phrase.
