forced
In general usage: seeming unnatural, forced, or tense. Describes behavior that is not spontaneous or relaxed.
Ihre zwanghafte Fröhlichkeit auf der Party wirkte auf alle Anwesenden unecht.
Her forced cheerfulness at the party seemed fake to everyone present.
The adjective 'zwanghaft' (compulsive/forced) is derived from the noun 'der Zwang' (compulsion, pressure). 'Zwang' means pressure or an inner compulsion. The ending '-haft' means 'characterized by', so something is 'zwanghaft' when it is characterized by compulsion.

“Besessen” and “zwanghaft” can both describe recurring thoughts or behavior that is strongly tied to something. “Besessen” emphasizes a dominant fixation on a goal or something, while “zwanghaft” emphasizes the inner pressure to repeat something. When the focus is on an inner compulsion, “zwanghaft” is particularly appropriate.
