'naiv' describes more of an attitude: someone trusts too quickly, thinks too simplistically, or has too little experience. Learners may confuse the words because both have to do with a lack of knowledge. As a practical rule: if someone does not have a piece of information, 'ahnungslos' fits. If someone seems too trusting or inexperienced, 'naiv' fits better.
