A form of aggressive, often public and repeated criticism or abuse directed against a person, group, or thing. It involves verbal attacks that frequently take place in the media or on the internet.

'Bashing' is a word from English. Many English verbs ending in '-ing' that are used as nouns in German are neuter and take the article 'das'.

'die Kritik' and 'das Bashing' can both be negative statements about someone or something. 'Kritik' can be factual and points out mistakes or problems. It can be harsh, but it does not have to be unfair. 'Bashing' is much more aggressive: it often means public, repeated, and hurtful attacks, especially on the internet or in the media. The words can be confused because bashing is a kind of very aggressive criticism. If someone calmly says what is not good, 'Kritik' fits. If many people attack loudly and unfairly, 'Bashing' fits better.
