beeinflussen vs Einfluss
influence
'der Einfluss' and 'beeinflussen' are closely related, but they have different grammatical roles. 'Einfluss' is a noun and names the effect or power that someone or something has. 'beeinflussen' is a verb and describes the action or process: someone or something affects a person, an opinion, or a development. Learners can easily confuse them because the meaning is very similar. You say 'Einfluss auf etwas haben' (to have influence on something) or 'Einfluss auf etwas nehmen' (to exert influence on something), but 'jemanden oder etwas beeinflussen' (to influence someone or something) without 'auf'.

Das Gespräch mit der Ärztin beeinflusst seine Entscheidung für die Behandlung.

Der Einfluss des Wetters auf die Veranstaltung ist größer, als wir gedacht haben.
The influence of the weather on the event is greater than we thought.
