bodenständig vs natürlich

natural / of course

'natürlich' and 'bodenständig' can both be used to say something positive about a person. A 'natürliche' person seems genuine and unaffected. A 'bodenständige' person also seems modest, realistic, and not detached or arrogant. So 'bodenständig' more strongly describes an attitude toward life and often also a connection to one's background or to simple everyday life. Learners may confuse the words because both mean the opposite of artificial or exaggerated. For relaxed, genuine behavior, 'natürlich' fits; for modesty and realism, 'bodenständig' is a better fit.
