torque
A physical quantity from mechanics that describes the rotational effect of a force on a body. It is crucial for the acceleration of rotating objects, such as wheels or engines.
Der Elektromotor liefert schon bei niedriger Drehzahl ein hohes Drehmoment.
The electric motor delivers high torque even at low engine speed.

The word is made up of 'drehen' (to turn) and 'das Moment' (moment). 'Das Moment' (neuter) is a physical term here, not to be confused with 'der Moment' (masculine), which refers to a point in time. So it literally describes the 'quantity of rotation'.
Die Kraft erzeugt ein Drehmoment, das das Rad in Bewegung setzt.
The force generates torque that sets the wheel in motion.
'Drehmoment' (torque) is a technical term from physics and engineering, especially in mechanical and automotive engineering. In everyday life, you often hear it in discussions about cars and engines.
Beim Autokauf achten viele auf das Drehmoment des Motors.
When buying a car, many people pay attention to the engine's torque.
Common adjectives are 'hoch' (high), 'niedrig' (low), or 'maximal' (maximum). Typical verbs are 'haben' (to have), 'liefern' (to deliver), or 'erzeugen' (to generate). It is often associated with engines.
Dieser Elektromotor liefert sofort sein maximales Drehmoment.
This electric motor delivers its maximum torque immediately.
