The ability to understand and get an overview of a complex situation, system, or topic. The word is usually used in the expressions 'den Durchblick haben/verlieren' (to have/lose the overview).
Nach zwei Stunden Einarbeitung hatte ich endlich den Durchblick bei der neuen Software.
After two hours of training, I finally had an understanding of the new software.
view through
An opening or gap that allows a view through something.
Durch ein Loch im Zaun ergab sich ein kleiner Durchblick auf den geheimen Garten.
Through a hole in the fence, there was a small view through to the secret garden.
'Durchblick' (understanding/view through) is made up of 'durch' (through) and 'Blick' (look/view). The literal meaning is therefore a 'look through something'. This helps you understand both the concrete and the figurative meaning.

After the explanation, Maria finally understood the difficult processes.
Trotz der vielen Aufgaben behielt Maria die Übersicht über das ganze Projekt.
