The act of unsettling someone through threats or frightening behavior and influencing them to do or not do something specific.

The word comes from the verb 'einschüchtern' (to intimidate). It contains the adjective 'schüchtern' (shy). To intimidate someone therefore literally means to 'make them shy' through fear.

'der Druck' and 'die Einschüchterung' can both describe a situation where someone is influenced and does not feel free. But 'Druck' is more general: it can arise from time, expectations, responsibility, or other people. 'Einschüchterung' is stronger and more specific. In this case, someone makes another person afraid, often through threats or threatening behavior. If it is only about stress or expectations, 'Druck' fits better. If fear is used as a means, 'Einschüchterung' is more precise.
Die Einschüchterung durch den Chef hat viele im Team verunsichert.
