Fahrerflucht vs Flucht

escape / alignment

'die Flucht' and 'die Fahrerflucht' both have to do with leaving a place, even though someone should or must stay there. 'die Flucht' is more general: someone quickly leaves a place because there is danger, fear, or an unpleasant situation. 'die Fahrerflucht' is much more specific and belongs to traffic: a person is involved in an accident and unlawfully leaves the scene of the accident. Learners may confuse the words because in both cases someone leaves. For accidents involving a car, bicycle, or another means of transport, however, 'Fahrerflucht' is the appropriate word.
