A person, organization, or institution that supports someone or something, especially in the fields of art, culture, science, or sports, either financially or morally.

You can tell from context whether a person or a machine is meant. If it is about art, culture, science, or sponsorship, a person is meant. In technical or industrial contexts (factory, airport), a machine is meant.

When a person is meant, the word is often combined with adjectives such as 'großzügig' (generous), 'wichtig' (important), or 'privat' (private). Someone is often a 'Förderer von' (supporter of) art, science, or a specific project.

In the technical meaning, a more specific word such as 'Förderband' (conveyor belt) or 'Fördermaschine' (conveying machine) is often used. The standalone word 'Förderer' (conveyor) is less common here.
