Usage tips
Sentence structure with 'über' and 'dass'
When expressing joy about a thing, you use 'froh über' with the accusative. When you are happy about a situation, you use a subordinate clause with 'dass' (that).
EXAMPLE
Ich bin froh über deine Hilfe.
I'm glad about your help.
Use with 'sein'
The adjective 'froh' (glad) is almost always used together with the verb 'sein' (to be), e.g. 'ich bin froh' (I am glad), 'er war froh' (he was glad). Using it directly before a noun is rare.
EXAMPLE
Wir sind alle froh, dass das Projekt erfolgreich war.
We are all glad that the project was successful.
Fixed greetings
In the meaning 'fröhlich' (merry/cheerful), 'froh' is now almost only part of fixed greetings for holidays. The most common are 'Frohe Weihnachten' (Merry Christmas) and 'Frohe Ostern' (Happy Easter).

'glücklich' and 'froh' both describe a positive feeling. 'glücklich' often sounds stronger and more general: you feel deep joy or satisfaction. 'froh' is used very often when you are relieved or pleased about a specific reason, for example after good news. The words can be confused because both express joy. A practical tip: you are 'glücklich' with your life or in a beautiful moment; you are 'froh über' something or 'froh, dass' something happened.
