Groove vs Rhythmus

rhythm

'der Rhythmus' and 'der Groove' both have to do with music and movement. 'Der Rhythmus' is the general term for a regular sequence of sounds, beats, or movements. 'Der Groove' is more specific: it refers to a rhythm that is especially catchy and makes you want to move along. Learners may confuse the words because every groove also has to do with rhythm. But not every rhythm is a groove. 'Rhythmus' fits neutrally in many music and dance situations, while 'Groove' sounds more modern and more strongly associated with jazz, funk, soul, or pop.
