Part of compounds
The word 'Halle' (hall) is very often the second part of a compound noun. The first part then describes the purpose of the hall.
EXAMPLE
Die Züge fahren von der großen Bahnhofshalle ab.
The trains depart from the large station concourse.
Movement and location
Pay attention to the case after the preposition 'in'. Movement into a hall is expressed with the accusative ('in die Halle'), while a fixed location inside it requires the dative ('in der Halle').

Die Sportler gehen in die Halle, um zu trainieren.
The athletes go into the hall to train.
Large, open space
A 'Halle' (hall) always refers to a large, spacious, and open room. The word is not used for a narrow corridor or hallway in an apartment.

'die Halle' and 'das Stadion' can both be large places for sports, concerts, or events. The important difference is: a 'Halle' is covered and often a large indoor space. A 'Stadion' is a large sports facility with stands, usually open or only partly covered. So you are more likely to say 'Sporthalle' (sports hall) when the game takes place indoors, and 'Stadion' when talking about football, athletics, or a large concert with many spectator seats. The words can be confused because both are large and can have an audience.
