Impuls vs Initiative

initiative

'die Initiative' and 'der Impuls' can both be the beginning of an action. 'Impuls' often means a brief inner drive or an external stimulus. It can come suddenly and does not yet have to lead to a plan. 'Initiative' is more concrete: someone becomes active and takes the first step or takes responsibility. An impulse can therefore be the reason why someone shows initiative. If you only mean the brief push in someone's mind or from outside, 'Impuls' fits. If someone really acts and starts something, 'Initiative' is a better fit.
