Novelle vs Geschichte
story / history
'die Geschichte' and 'die Novelle' can both mean a narrated plot in written form. 'die Geschichte' is the more general word. It can be short or long, spoken or written, true or invented. 'die Novelle' is a specific literary form. It is usually short to medium-length and focuses on a special event. Learners may confuse the words because a novella is also a type of story. If you are talking generally about a narrative, 'Geschichte' fits; if you mean the literary genre, 'Novelle' is more precise.
