Pastor vs Minister

minister

'der Minister' and 'der Pastor' can mean something similar in a religious context, but that is not the normal modern use of 'Minister'. 'der Pastor' is a Protestant clergyman, especially in some regions the usual term for a Protestant minister. In everyday language, 'der Minister' almost always means a member of the government. Only historically or in certain Protestant free churches can 'Minister' also refer to a clergyman. This can lead to confusion, but for a Protestant congregation, 'Pastor' is usually clearer.
