'der Reis' and 'das Korn' can both have to do with grain. 'Reis' is a specific type of grain and also the food that is cooked from it. 'Korn' is more general: it can mean an individual grain or grain in general. With rice, people often say 'Reiskörner' (grains of rice) when they mean the individual small pieces. That is why the words can be confused. For the dish or the type of grain, say 'Reis'; for one small individual piece or for grain in general, 'Korn' fits.
