The word is made up of 'Rück-' (back) and 'Meldung' (message, report). A 'Rückmeldung' is therefore literally a 'message that comes back'.

We ask for a quick response as to whether the appointment works for you.
If you want to say what the feedback or response refers to, use the preposition 'auf' (to/on) followed by the accusative.
Die Rückmeldung auf meinen Vorschlag war sehr positiv.
The feedback on my proposal was very positive.

'die Antwort' and 'die Rückmeldung' can both be a response to something. 'die Antwort' is used especially for a specific question, request, or message. 'die Rückmeldung' is broader and often sounds a bit more formal: it can also be feedback on a piece of work, a performance, or an offer. Learners easily confuse the words because a 'Rückmeldung' is often also an answer. In practice: when someone directly answers a question, 'Antwort' is very natural. When someone says what they think of something or whether something has arrived, 'Rückmeldung' often fits better.
