A book that contains a collection of different, independent texts (such as essays, articles, or short stories) by one or more authors on a common topic. Edited volumes are especially common in academia.

omnibus / bus
Both words can refer to a book containing several independent texts. A Sammelband can contain contributions by different authors, especially scholarly texts, while an Omnibus usually combines several works by one author or on one topic in a single edition. For different contributions, Sammelband is the appropriate term; for works collected together, use Omnibus.
