Stätte vs Platz
place / space
'der Platz' and 'die Stätte' can both refer to a place or a specific location. 'Platz' is much more everyday and concrete: it can be an open square in a city or a specific place for someone or something. 'Stätte' sounds more elevated and often means a place with special, historical, or cultural significance. It also often appears in compounds such as 'Ausbildungsstätte' (training center). The words can be confused because both point to a place. For normal places, you usually say 'Platz'. 'Stätte' fits when the place has special significance or the style is more formal or solemn.

Die alte Burg ist heute eine wichtige historische Stätte.
The old castle is now an important historical site.
