structural stability
The calculation of forces and their distribution within a structure in order to ensure its stability and safety.
The architect has to hire an engineer who will calculate the structural stability of the bridge.
statics
A branch of physics and technical mechanics that deals with the equilibrium of forces on bodies at rest.
In physics class, we are currently covering the basics of statics.

The ending '-ik' often indicates a scientific field or discipline, as in 'Physik' (physics) or 'Mathematik' (mathematics). 'Statik' (statics) is the study of motionless, stable states.
In her engineering studies, she learned a lot about statics.
You can tell from context whether the structural stability of a building or the academic field is meant. Words like 'Gebäude' (building), 'Brücke' (bridge), or 'berechnen' (to calculate) point to structural engineering. Words like 'Physik' (physics) or 'Gleichgewicht' (equilibrium) point to the academic field.
The engineer checks the structural stability of the new hall.
In physics, we learn the laws of statics.
In the context of buildings, 'Statik' (structural stability) is often used with the verbs 'berechnen' (to calculate) and 'prüfen' (to check). You can also say that the structural stability 'stimmt' (is correct/works) or 'nicht stimmt' (is not correct/doesn't work).
Before the renovation, an expert has to calculate the structural stability of the old house.
When 'Statik' (statics) is meant as the name of the scientific field, the word is often used without an article, similar to other subjects.
Sein Hauptfach im Studium war Statik.
His major at university was statics.
