But the difference is important: 'übereinstimmen' means that something is the same or that people have the same opinion. 'sich überschneiden' only means that there is a shared part. This can be with appointments, areas, topics, or interests. The words are easy to confuse because both can occur with similar content. If everything, or the important point, is the same, 'übereinstimmen' fits. If only one part is the same, or two appointments happen at the same time, 'sich überschneiden' fits.
