'Lotto' and 'Verlosung' both have to do with chance and winning. 'Lotto' is a fixed lottery game with numbers, usually state-organized, in which you can win money. A 'Verlosung' is more general: prizes are distributed to winners by drawing lots or by chance, for example at a festival, in a shop, or online. It does not necessarily involve number picks or large cash prizes. The words can be confused because in both cases something is drawn by chance. If you pick numbers and wait for the lottery drawing, it is called 'Lotto'. If prizes are distributed among participants, 'Verlosung' fits better.
