'die Erfahrung' and 'das Vorwissen' can both help you understand a new task better. 'Erfahrung' usually comes from doing, practicing, or experiencing something yourself. 'Vorwissen' means knowledge that you already have before a course, conversation, or new topic. This knowledge can come from school, books, or earlier work. Learners may confuse the words because both describe knowledge that is already present. If practical activity is important, 'Erfahrung' fits better. If the point is what someone already knows about a topic beforehand, 'Vorwissen' is more precise.
