to omit / leave out
Auslassen and weglassen can both mean that something is not mentioned or done. Auslassen is especially suitable when a planned item in a sequence is skipped; weglassen more generally emphasizes deliberately not including something. Auslassen often fits a step, while weglassen is more suitable for a planned change.
Für die kurze Version wollte sie den letzten Satz des Textes weglassen.
She wanted to leave out the last sentence for the shorter version.
Beim Vorlesen ließ sie den letzten Satz des Textes aus.
While reading the text aloud, she skipped the last sentence.
