The word is made up of 'das Wetter' (weather) and 'der Bericht' (report). So it literally means a 'Bericht über das Wetter' (report about the weather).

weather forecast
Both words can refer to information about the weather to come. Wetterbericht generally refers to the entire published report, while Wettervorhersage specifically highlights the forecast for the future. Use Wetterbericht for a report and Wettervorhersage for the actual forecast.
