'wählen' and 'wiederwählen' both belong to the area of elections. 'wählen' generally means that you cast your vote for a person or party in an election. 'wiederwählen' is more specific: a person is elected again to an office or position that they already held. Learners may confuse the words because 'wiederwählen' contains the word 'wählen'. The important part is 'wieder' (again): it is not about the first election, but about the same person being elected again.
