Word family
The adjective 'zackig' is derived from 'Zacke' (prong / point). 'Zackig' can mean 'having points or prongs', but also colloquially 'quick' or 'brisk'. This second meaning is closely connected to the idiom 'einen Zacken zulegen' (to pick up the pace).
