anwidern vs gefallen

to please / to fall

'gefallen' and 'anwidern' are clear opposites. If something 'gefällt' someone, that person finds it pleasant, beautiful, or likable. If something 'widert' someone 'an', it causes strong disgust or strong aversion. 'anwidern' is much stronger and more negative than simply 'nicht gefallen' (not to please / not to be liked). It fits with smells, sights, or also with people's bad behavior.
