beglücken vs freuen

to look forward / to be pleased

'freuen' and 'beglücken' can both mean that someone is given joy. 'freuen' is more neutral and suitable for everyday use: a message, a visit, or a gift can please someone. 'beglücken' is stronger and often sounds more elevated. It means that someone is made very happy. Sometimes 'beglücken' is also used ironically when someone receives something they do not want at all. For normal everyday sentences, 'freuen' is usually more natural; 'beglücken' fits when the joy is especially great or the style is intentionally a bit more special.
