bereden vs überzeugen

to convince

'überzeugen' and 'bereden' can both have to do with conversations in which someone changes their opinion or does something. 'überzeugen' emphasizes the reasons: someone finds an argument correct and therefore agrees. 'jemanden bereden' means more like getting someone to do something through a lot of encouragement or persuasion. This can sound less objective and sometimes also like pressure. In addition, 'bereden' can simply mean 'to discuss', for example to discuss a problem or a plan. That is why the risk of confusion is high. If you mean the effect of good arguments, use 'überzeugen'. If you are just discussing a topic together, use 'bereden'.

Visual example for überzeugen
bereden

Am Abend bereden wir im Team, wie wir das Problem lösen können.

In the evening, we discuss as a team how we can solve the problem.

überzeugen

Clara convinces her friends with a good plan for the trip.
