to persuade someone
To get someone to do or believe something by talking to them; to persuade.
Er hat mich beredet, mit ihm auf das Konzert zu gehen, obwohl ich eigentlich keine Zeit hatte.
He persuaded me to go to the concert with him, even though I actually didn't have time.
to confer
To talk with one another in order to coordinate, plan something together, or reach an agreement.
Die Minister berieten sich stundenlang über das neue Gesetz.

'Bereden' is an inseparable verb. The prefix 'be-' remains firmly attached to the verb 'reden' (to talk) in all conjugated forms and sentence positions.
Wir haben das Problem gestern lange beredet.
We discussed the problem at length yesterday.
The prefix 'be-' makes the verb transitive, so it needs a direct accusative object. You say 'über ein Thema reden' (to talk about a topic), but 'ein Thema bereden' (to discuss a topic).
Wir müssen deine Zukunftspläne bald bereden.
We need to discuss your future plans soon.
You can often recognize the meaning from the sentence structure. 'Etwas bereden' means to discuss something. 'Jemanden bereden' means to persuade someone. 'Sich bereden' means to confer or coordinate with each other.

We discussed the details of the contract.
In the meaning of 'überreden' (to persuade), an infinitive construction with 'zu' often follows. The structure is: jemanden bereden, etwas zu tun (to persuade someone to do something).
Ich ließ mich bereden, noch ein Stück Kuchen zu essen.
I let myself be persuaded to eat another piece of cake.
to talk
Both words can refer to talking about a topic. With reden, the topic is usually introduced with über; with bereden, it appears directly as an accusative object, and the aim is often to clarify an issue together.
Wir bereden heute das Problem mit dem neuen Plan.
Today, we are discussing the problem with the new plan.
Wir reden heute über das Problem mit dem neuen Plan.
Today, we are talking about the problem with the new plan.
