A feeling of great respect, recognition, and often also amazement for a person, an achievement, or a thing. It is a positive and highly appreciative emotion.

'Die Bewunderung' (admiration) is the noun form of the verb 'bewundern' (to admire). The ending '-ung' is a very common way in which German verbs become feminine nouns.

To express for whom or what you feel admiration, you use the preposition 'für' (for) followed by the accusative.

'Respekt' means Achtung: you take someone seriously and recognize their achievement, experience, or authority. 'Bewunderung' is stronger and more emotional. It often includes amazement because you find something especially beautiful, brave, or impressive. Learners may confuse the words because you often both respect and admire someone at the same time. But you can have Respekt without being amazed. 'Bewunderung' fits when something truly impresses you.
