'die Idee' and 'das Konzept' can both mean the basic idea for a project or undertaking. 'Idee' is often more spontaneous and may still be very simple. 'Konzept' sounds more planned and developed. It usually describes how something is supposed to work as a whole. The words can be confused because a concept is based on an idea. If you only have a sudden thought, you are more likely to say 'Idee'. If the thought is already organized and described, 'Konzept' fits better.
