Word family
'Der Entwurf' (the draft/design) is the noun form of the verb 'entwerfen' (to design/draft). You can recognize the verb 'werfen' (to throw) in it. The idea behind it is that you 'throw out' a first thought or first sketch, or put it down on paper.

'der Plan' and 'der Entwurf' can both show how something is intended or prepared. 'Plan' is more general: it can be an intention, detailed organization, or also a drawing. 'Entwurf' more often means a first, not yet finished version. This can be a text, a concept, or a sketch. They can be confused when talking about projects or design. If something already serves as a basis for action, 'Plan' fits better. If it is still meant to be revised, 'Entwurf' is more precise.
