'die Übertragung' and 'die Migration' can both have to do with data or systems in technology. 'die Übertragung' generally means that data, signals, or information are passed from one place or system to another. 'die Migration' is more specific: data, software, or entire systems are transferred into a new technical environment. Learners may confuse the words because data are often also transmitted during a migration. 'Übertragung' fits the individual process of sending or passing something on. 'Migration' fits the larger move from an old system to a new one.
