Most vs Wein

wine

'der Wein' and 'der Most' both have to do with fruit juice and fermentation, especially with grapes. 'der Wein' is the finished alcoholic drink made from fermented grapes. 'der Most' is usually freshly pressed juice that is not yet fermented or only partly fermented. In some regions, 'Most' can also mean an alcoholic drink made from apples or pears. Learners may confuse the words because both can be drinks made from fruit. As a simple guide: for the finished grape drink, you say 'Wein'; for fresh or still young juice from the press, you say 'Most'.
