Several versions can exist side by side, such as an old, a new, or a short version. 'Neufassung' is more specific: it means a revised and newly formulated version, especially of texts, laws, contracts, or works. Learners may confuse the words because a 'Neufassung' is also a version. But not every 'Version' is a 'Neufassung'. If you only mean a variant, 'Version' fits. If it is clearly the result of a revision, 'Neufassung' fits.
