Sentence structure with 'mit'
The adjective 'verwandt' (related) is almost always used together with the preposition 'mit' (with) and the dative. The structure is: Person A ist mit Person B verwandt (Person A is related to Person B).
EXAMPLE
Ich wusste gar nicht, dass du mit ihm verwandt bist.
I had no idea that you are related to him.
Word family
The noun 'der/die Verwandte' (relative) is derived from this adjective and means 'a family member.' This noun is declined like an adjective.

Common mistake
'Verwandt' (related) is used almost only predicatively, e.g. 'Sie sind verwandt.' (They are related.) You cannot put it before a noun to describe a person, not: 'mein verwandter Onkel.'
