wüten vs kochen

to cook / to boil

'kochen' and 'wüten' can both have to do with strong anger. 'kochen' is used in the fixed expression 'vor Wut kochen' (to boil with rage). This means that someone is extremely angry inside. 'wüten' describes more that someone clearly shows their anger, for example by shouting, raging, or acting aggressively. So the difference is: with 'kochen vor Wut', the feeling is in the foreground; with 'wüten', it is more the visible action.

Visual example for kochen
wüten

Der Kunde wütete im Laden, weil seine Bestellung verschwunden war.

kochen
