'die Geschichte' and 'der Bericht' can both tell about events. The main difference is the purpose. A 'Geschichte' can be exciting, personal, or fictional, and is often told in a way that makes people enjoy listening. A 'Bericht' is meant to inform objectively and sticks to the facts. Learners may confuse the words because both present a sequence of events. When it is about school, work, news, or official information, 'Bericht' is usually more precise. When it is about a narrative, 'Geschichte' fits better.
Der Mitarbeiter schreibt einen Bericht, weil es im Lager einen Unfall gab.
