solide vs fest

firm / fixed

'fest' and 'solide' can both mean that something is stable and does not break easily. 'fest' usually describes directly that something holds well, does not wobble, or is not easy to loosen. 'solide' sounds more like good quality and good workmanship. A table can stand 'fest' because it does not wobble. It can be 'solide' if it is well built and durable. The words can be confused because they often both fit with objects. 'fest' fits more with how securely something sits or holds; 'solide' fits more with quality.
