The adjective 'baff' (stunned) is used almost exclusively predicatively, that is, together with a verb like 'sein' (to be) or 'machen' (to make). It does not stand before a noun.

'Baff' (stunned) is a colloquial word. In formal or written contexts, you would more likely use words like 'erstaunt' (amazed), 'verblüfft' (astonished), or 'sprachlos' (speechless).

To intensify the amazement, 'baff' (stunned) is often combined with adverbs like 'total' (totally), 'völlig' (completely), or 'einfach nur' (simply/just).

Platt and baff are colloquial expressions of strong surprise or speechlessness. Baff usually emphasizes the immediate reaction to something unexpected; being platt describes more the state of being completely surprised. In many situations, however, either word is possible.
